If you’ve tried to lose weight before and struggled, it was not because you lacked discipline. It was because you were given incomplete or incorrect frameworks.
If writing isn’t your thing, use your phone. You can dictate your journal into ChatGPT or any AI voice app.
Some people prefer writing, but many find it easier to simply speak their thoughts aloud. AI voice journaling offers a fast, low-effort way to stay consistent with your Relationship With Food Journal without needing pen and paper.
This method helps you:
• Capture entries immediately, when they’re most accurate
• Avoid the stress of end-of-day recall
• Organize entries automatically
• Strengthen awareness of stories, triggers, and patterns
• Keep the entire process simple and sustainable
This tool is optional. Use it only if it supports you.
Create a single ChatGPT conversation titled:
My Relationship With Food Journal
You will return to this same chat for every meal, snack, or entry.
This keeps the AI consistent, prevents drift, and keeps all your data organized.
Once you open this chat, give ChatGPT these one-time instructions:
“Please help me keep a daily Relationship With Food Journal.
Remember these rules for all future entries in this chat:
– Only organize the information I give you.
– Do not guess or assume anything that I do not explicitly say.
– Identify only the stories and triggers that I mention.
– Keep all summaries short and factual.
– Do not provide psychological interpretations, diagnoses, or emotional analysis.
– If something is unclear, ask me one simple clarifying question instead of guessing.
– Always include the date and time I provide, and never assume or infer dates or times.
Please confirm that you understand these rules and will follow them for the rest of this chat.”
You do this once.
AI will maintain this behavior throughout your journal.
Most people forget the details of what they ate—and especially why they made certain choices—if they wait until the end of the day.
To keep the journal accurate and stress-free, record entries:
• Right after a meal
• Right after a snack
• Right after an unplanned food choice
• Immediately when a story or trigger is fresh
This takes less than 10 seconds per entry and dramatically improves insight.
Each time you eat or drink something, open your journal chat and dictate something like:
“Journal entry for [today’s date] at [time] or [meal/snack].
I ate/drank: [describe].
Not-ideal choice: [if any].
Story: [if any].
Trigger: [if any].
Please format this entry.”
Examples of date/time format:
• March 4, 7:30 AM, breakfast
• 3/4, 2 PM, snack
• Today, dinner (AI will stamp the date because you provided it earlier)
Because of the guardrails, ChatGPT will:
• Format your entry
• Label only the triggers and stories you explicitly stated
• Keep everything short, simple, and factual
No interpretation.
No guessing.
No assumptions.
If you enjoy calorie or macro awareness—and only if you want it—you may add:
“Also, please estimate the calories and approximate macro breakdown for this entry based on standard nutritional databases. Keep the estimate simple.”
If you are following a low-carb structure, you may add:
“Please tell me whether this entry appears consistent with a low-carb pattern:
– Under 100g carbs per day (standard low-carb)
– Under 50g carbs per day (more aggressive)
– Under 20g carbs per day (strict low-carb / meat + vegetables)
Use only simple approximations.”
This keeps the analysis aligned with Spark’s nutrition philosophy while avoiding complexity or precision claims.
If you do not want these estimates, do not include the request.
** IMPORTANT NOTE: If you do this and find it becomes obsessive, compusive, or provokes a negative emotion, leave this for now, or discuss at your next session.
Once per week, or before your Foundations Visit, say:
“Please summarize my journal entries for this week. Use only the information I provided.
Identify my repeating stories, repeating triggers, and any patterns in timing or situations.
Keep the summary short and factual.”
Because all data is in one chat, the AI can review your week easily and consistently.
If your chat gets very long, you may start a new one each month.
Use the same setup instructions at the start of the new chat:
“Please help me keep my Relationship With Food Journal. Remember these rules…”
This keeps the journal organized and avoids AI drift.
AI will:
• Format your entries
• Organize your meals/snacks
• Identify only the triggers and stories you mention
• Provide short, factual summaries
• Ask a simple question if needed
• Respect the FNRT method (Food Noise Recognition Technique)
AI will not:
• Guess emotions you did not name
• Assign psychological meaning to your choices
• Offer therapy-style interpretations
• Diagnose anything
• Invent stories or triggers
• Assume your intentions or motivations
• Provide advice outside the FNRT or Spark framework
These guardrails ensure the journal remains accurate and supportive—not overwhelming or intrusive.
The Food Noise Recognition Technique helps you to observe:
• The internal chatter before a choice
• The justification (story)
• The emotional or situational cue (trigger)
• The negotiation between short-term relief and long-term goals
AI makes this easier by:
• Organizing your words
• Highlighting your own patterns
• Keeping entries consistent
• Removing the friction of pen-and-paper journaling
This combination dramatically increases awareness and success rates.
